Hotels in Swat (Mingora)

Swat splits into a working town and a string of river resorts. Mingora is the commercial centre, with the bazaars, the hospital, the bus stands and most of the cheap hotels, and Saidu Sharif alongside it holds the museum, Butkara stupa and the quieter government-era buildings. Fizagat, a few kilometres north on the Swat river, is where the riverside hotels and restaurants concentrate. Beyond that the valley road climbs through Khwazakhela to Bahrain and Madyan, where riverside guesthouses cost less and the setting improves with every kilometre.

Rooms in Mingora run Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 a night, Fizagat riverside properties Rs 8,000 to Rs 18,000, and the Malam Jabba hotels Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000 with ski-season peaks higher. Bahrain and Madyan guesthouses sit at Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000 and are the best value in the valley. July and August fill everything; add thirty to fifty percent and book two to three weeks ahead. Rates in Mingora itself stay comparatively flat year-round.

The Swat Expressway from the M-1 at Karnal Sher Khan interchange has cut the Islamabad drive to roughly four to five hours, a transformation from the old Malakand Pass route. Saidu Sharif airport takes occasional domestic flights but is not dependable for planning. Malam Jabba is about fifty kilometres from Mingora on a good road, roughly ninety minutes, with a chairlift and Pakistan's main ski slope. Kalam is another two and a half hours up the valley from Bahrain.

The valley is at its best from April to October. Spring brings blossom through the lower valley, summer is green and busy, and October gives clear air with thin crowds. Malam Jabba holds skiable snow from roughly late December to February, which is the only reliable winter draw in the province. Swat's Buddhist archaeology, the Butkara stupa and the Swat Museum in Saidu Sharif are worth half a day and are usually skipped entirely by summer visitors.
