Hostels in Pakistan

Islamabad hostels cover two different needs. Backpacker and traveller hostels in F-6, F-7 and G-6 sell dorm beds at Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500 a night with shared kitchens, common rooms and staff who know the Margalla trails and the northern bus timings. Student and working hostels in G-9, I-8, H-9 and near the university belt sell a bed by the month, generally Rs 18,000 to Rs 35,000 including two or three meals a day.

For short traveller stays, check whether the dorm is mixed or separated, how many beds share a bathroom, and whether there is a locker large enough for a full backpack. Ask about the front gate closing time, which is often 11pm or midnight. Wi-Fi in the common room is standard; in-room coverage is not, and matters if you plan to work from the property.

For monthly student stays, visit before paying. Look at the mess quality, the water storage during summer shortages, generator coverage during load shedding, and the visitor policy for parents. Advance is usually one month plus a small security deposit. Rooms near NUST, Quaid-i-Azam University, COMSATS and the F-8 academy cluster tighten sharply in August and September before the semester starts.
