Hotels in Peshawar

Peshawar's hotels concentrate in two areas. University Town is the traditional choice for visiting professionals and aid-sector staff, a low-rise neighbourhood of walled houses, guesthouses and small hotels off Jamrud Road. Hayatabad, further west toward the Khyber approach, is newer, more spread out and has the better-equipped properties with parking and backup power. Saddar and the Cantt hold a handful of older hotels closer to the railway station. The old city around Qissa Khwani has the food and the atmosphere but very little accommodation worth booking.

Rooms in 2026 run Rs 6,000 to Rs 13,000 for a clean mid-range double in University Town or Hayatabad, and Rs 16,000 to Rs 32,000 at the few four-star properties. Guesthouses aimed at long-stay professionals rent monthly at Rs 90,000 to Rs 180,000, often with a cook and a guard included. Ask specifically about generator capacity and water supply, and confirm parking inside the compound rather than on the street, which most hosts will arrange without being asked.

Bacha Khan International Airport sits between the Cantt and University Town, unusually close to the centre. The M-1 motorway reaches Islamabad in under two hours, and the Peshawar to Torkham road runs west through the Khyber Pass toward the Afghan border. The Bus Rapid Transit line, locally called the Zu Peshawar, runs from Chamkani through Saddar to Hayatabad and is the fastest way across the city during the day. Trains still serve Peshawar Cantt station on the main north line.

November to March is the season, with daytime temperatures in the teens and twenties and the food streets at their best. June and July cross forty degrees and the old city becomes hard work by mid-morning. Ramadan changes the rhythm sharply, with Qissa Khwani and Namak Mandi coming alive only after iftar. Peshawar Museum and the Sethi House in Mohalla Sethian are the fixed sights; the Khyber Pass road beyond Jamrud requires permission and a security escort for foreign nationals.
