Murree
Punjab
Murree has two peaks a year, the June to August heat escape and the late December snow rush, and rates roughly double in both.
Bhurban is where corporate offsites and resort weekends go when Murree Mall Road is too crowded, about fifteen minutes short of it.
Bhurban sits nine kilometres below Murree on the Kohala road, high enough for the same pine forest and valley views but off the Mall Road crowd route. It is a resort village rather than a town: a short bazaar, a golf course, and a cluster of large hotels and privately owned cottages spread along the ridge. Most visitors are here for a two-night weekend, a corporate offsite or a wedding, and almost nobody arrives without a booking, because there is very little walk-in stock.
Standard rooms start near Rs 9,000 a night off-peak and run Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000 in July, August and the late December to January snow window. Valley-view rooms and suites at the larger resorts cross Rs 60,000. Full-board packages usually make sense because there are only a handful of restaurants outside the hotels. Corporate offsite packages combining rooms, a hall, tea breaks and lunch run roughly Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000 per delegate per night depending on the property.
The drive from Islamabad is about two hours on the Murree Expressway, turning off before Murree town toward Kohala. From Rawalpindi allow a little longer. The road continues down to Kohala bridge and the Azad Kashmir side, which makes Bhurban a reasonable first night if you are heading toward Muzaffarabad. Traffic in peak weeks builds on the Expressway rather than in Bhurban itself, so an early start out of Islamabad solves most of the problem.
April, May, September and October are the value months, with mild days, clear evenings and rooms at close to half the summer rate. Winter snow settles from late December through February and the access road is usually cleared quickly, but heavy falls can strand cars overnight, so ask the hotel about conditions the morning you travel. Evening temperatures fall into single figures even in summer. Confirm room heating and generator backup before booking anything between December and March.
Most people start with Bhurban Bazaar, Golf course area and Kohala Road +2 more. Where you stay in Bhurban changes the price more than the star rating does, so tell us the area you have in mind — or the reason you are travelling — and we will match you to the right part of town.
