How much does a Margalla trail guide charge?

Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000 for a half-day hike for the whole group, not per person, and Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for a full day on longer routes. Sunrise and night hikes usually add about Rs 2,000. For groups over fifteen, a second guide is recommended and charged at the same rate.

Which routes do guides cover?

All the numbered trails from Trail 3 to Trail 6, the Pir Sohawa ridge, the connecting routes across Trail 4, and the quieter western Margalla paths towards Talhar. Do guides carry first aid and water?

Experienced guides carry a basic first-aid kit, spare water and a torch, and know the nearest exit points off each trail. That is a fair thing to confirm at booking. They are not medical professionals, so anyone with a heart condition, asthma or knee trouble should mention it before the hike starts, not on the ascent.

Can a guide take a corporate or school group?

Yes. Corporate teambuilding hikes usually run on Trail 5 or Trail 6 with a guide for every ten to fifteen participants, and school groups are kept to the gentler sections. For groups over twenty, plan two or three guides, a fixed turnaround time and a support vehicle at the trail head.

How much notice is needed to book a guide?

Two to three days is usually enough, and a week for weekend sunrise slots between October and March, which is the busiest hiking season in Islamabad. Same-day guide hire is occasionally possible on weekdays. Confirm the trail head and start time the evening before so nobody is waiting at the wrong gate.
