Trips north of Mansehra are a different kind of booking. The Karakoram Highway, the Babusar route and the Skardu road demand a vehicle in genuinely good condition and a driver who has run them before, particularly between June and September when landslides and single-lane sections are common. Most groups leave Islamabad early morning and break the journey at Naran, Chilas or Besham.

Multi-day quotes are built from a daily vehicle rate plus fuel, toll, driver allowance and, on some routes, a night halt charge. A Hiace to Naran and Kaghan over four days is usually Rs 90,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh all in. A Grand Cabin or Land Cruiser to Skardu or Hunza over seven days runs Rs 2 to Rs 3.5 lakh. Prado and 4x4 hire costs more but is the sensible choice for Deosai and Fairy Meadows access roads.

Ask when the vehicle was last serviced, whether the brakes and tyres were checked for hill running, and how many hours the driver will drive per day, since fatigue on the KKH is the real risk. Confirm what happens if the road closes, agree the daily start time, and carry cash, because card acceptance thins out past Chilas.
