Khanpur Dam is around 50 km from Islamabad towards Haripur, roughly ninety minutes by road via Taxila. It is the closest real water-activity destination to the capital, with jet skiing, boating, kayaking, cliff jumping at designated points, zip lines at some operators and lakeside camping. Weekends draw large groups from both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Day packages run Rs 4,000 to Rs 7,000 per person including transport from Islamabad, a boat ride and lunch, with activity bundles adding Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 for jet ski, kayak and cliff jumping. Private family trips by car are Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 excluding activities. Overnight camping packages are Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 per person.

Activity operators vary a lot in safety standards. Check that life jackets are provided and worn, that cliff jumping is only done at supervised points with known water depth, and that jet ski operators brief before handing over. Water is cold outside the May to September window, and non-swimmers should stay on the boats rather than the jumping platforms.
