Cycling Toursin Islamabad & Rawalpindi
This desk started in Islamabad, so this is where our data runs deepest. Everything below is written for Islamabad and Rawalpindi specifically — other cities are covered, in less detail.
Islamabad is one of the better Pakistani cities for cycling because of its wide avenues and the low-traffic early morning window. Common routes are the Margalla Road climb towards Pir Sohawa, the Rawal Lake and Park Road loop, the flat run along Constitution Avenue and the Blue Area at dawn, and off-road sections in the Margalla foothills for those with a mountain bike.
Guided rides cost Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,500 per person including a bike, helmet and a support person, or Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 if you bring your own bike. Bike hire alone is Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,500 a day. Group rides usually cap at ten riders with a lead and a sweep so nobody is dropped on the climbs.
Ride between 6 and 8.30 am, particularly from April to September, and confirm helmet availability rather than assuming it. Check the bike size and gear range if the route includes the Pir Sohawa climb, which is a sustained ascent that punishes a single-speed. Winter mornings are cold in the shade of the hills, so bring a layer.
