Northern packages are built around Islamabad as the departure point because the road, air and group logistics all start here. The common products are a four-day Naran and Kaghan trip, a five-day Swat and Kalam trip, a seven-day Hunza circuit on the Karakoram Highway, and eight to ten day Skardu itineraries covering Shigar, Khaplu and Deosai in season.

Group departures cost roughly Rs 45,000 to Rs 65,000 per person for Naran over four days, Rs 85,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh for a seven-day Hunza trip, and Rs 1.2 to Rs 2 lakh for Skardu with Deosai. Private family packages cost more per head. Quotes normally include transport, hotels on twin sharing, breakfast and dinner, and a tour lead.

Read the inclusions carefully. Ask which hotels are named rather than described as three star, whether jeep charges for Fairy Meadows, Deosai and the Hunza upper valleys are included, how many people share a room, and what happens on a road closure. Book four to six weeks ahead for June to September, which is the only reliable window for Babusar and Deosai.
