Sessions typically run from 4 to 7 pm, sometimes 3.30 to 6.30, and most venues stop replenishing counters thirty minutes before closing, which matters if you arrive late. Weekend hi-teas are busier and often priced ten to twenty percent above weekdays, and hotel hi-teas usually add the 16 percent sales tax on services to the advertised rate.

For groups above ten, book rather than walk in, since hi-tea seating is arranged in advance and large tables are limited. Ask whether the advertised price includes tax, whether children under a certain age are charged at half rate, and what the counter actually contains, as the gap between a hotel hi-tea and a cafe hi-tea is mostly counter breadth.
